Ah, I see what you mean.  I know with Quicksilver you can invoke an
applications menubar from any other application, but I don't think
there's a Mailplane specific shortcut for that.

However, if you enable the Growl notifications, it does tell you when
you get a new mail, who it's from, the subject o the message, and
which account it landed in.  Not exactly what you want, but off the
top of my head it's the closest thing I can think of.
