John, it's not just you. I mentioned it in a thread a week or so ago, but haven't had time to troubleshoot / work with Ruben. I consistently see a 7-10% cpu load when Mailplane is minimized/hidden. If I'm actually composing an email this number can reach 20-30%. Rebooting or restarting doesn't seem to change things much.
I'm running OS X 10.6.3 w/Mailplane 2.18preview(1333). This also happened when I was running the last stable release 2.17. I'm not using google gears, I would like to but I can't seem to get it installed even with Ruben's "Special" build reported to work with Snow Leopard. I have completely uninstalled any residual google gears using the supplied uninstall script. I do however run SIMBL, Glims, and Booglemarks in Safari 4.05. John, if you're running any of the above add-ons let me know and I'll try to uninstall them and see how/if Mailplane is affected.
