Mailplane uses the official Apple "AddressBook People Picker View". I am not sure why the LDAP source don't show up. Here's a similar problem report from another product using the same functionality: http://osdir.com/ml/cocoa-dev/2010-07/msg00296.html
Unfortunately, I've no LDAP sources to test. Has any other user had success accessing such a source?
