Look in the upper right, next to the "reply" button. There's a down arrow that when you click on gives you several options. One is to add the person to your contact list (if that person is not yet a contact).
Once you've added that contact, you can hover over the contact (either in your inbox overview or in the email itself) a dialog box appears, and there's an option under "more" that lets you go to the contacts info. Often however, I have to reload my Gmail session to see the contact in the contacts list.
