Ruben, I'm having the same problem. Here are my observations:

1. In a Google Apps for Business Gmail account, downloads of attached
documents stopped working about 2 days ago.
2. In standard Gmail accounts, there's no problem.
3. The "reset session" trick doesn't have any effect.
4. Changing the download destination doesn't have any effect.
5. Attachments can be "viewed" OK.
6. Different filetypes exhibit different effects; PDF downloads result
in the window going black and Mailplane logging back into the account,
whereas with .DOC downloads nothing appears to happen at all.
7. With the Google Apps for Business Gmail account accessed through a
normal browser (including Safari 5.0.3), there's no problem.

Anything else I can tell you which might help troubleshoot the
problem, do ask!
