I think I know the explanation to this, but thought I'd ask anyway. In GMail email messages, some senders will be listed in the TO field as "John Smith". Others just as "John". In order to figure out which of the 10 Johns I know send the message, I have to click on "more info" to see the full email address.
I'm guessing this is has to do with how the sender entered their email credentials in whatever email client they are using and is out of the hands of Google (and, obviously, MailPlane).
