Ruben, I'm on 2.5.3 preview 2 (#1651) and I'm seeing similar-sounding slowness and have for a few weeks.
I also see slow results doing searches I've tried both the system WebKit and the Mailplane one. I do run several of the Labs features and use one of the skins. When I go to Google's site, they suggest "clearing the cache and cookies" and I don't see an obvious way to do that.
