I too am having this problem. Mailplane seems to stall out when trying to access Gmail's servers. I've had to stop using Mailplane for right now as it's become way too flakey. I've also noticed that the Mailplane new mail notifier in the menu bar doesn't appear to be working as quickly as it used to. It will continue to show a count of unread messages long after I have gone through and read and/or disposed of new emails.
Sorry that this should be happening on Ruben's (undoubtedly) long deserved vacation.
