FWIW, I have NOT experienced any of the issues that have been reported within the past few days by other users of Mailplane 2.x.x, then again, I'm using MP 2.5.6 (#1685) on Snow Leopard 10.6.8., I have NOT reset or restarted MP 2 for more than two weeks, thus the "silent update" mentioned does not apply to me. I hope this helps.
BTW, the Command+Shift+N shortcut and Command+Shift+W work as well, notice that the sequence is not Command+N.
