there seems like there is some problem during merge.

If you have merge-specific problems just let me know.

I'll repackage using the latest GAR release and get back to you if needed...

However, in order to successfully build a 64-bit python, you need a
64-bit libffi which requires the SOS12-compiler (currently not
available on Solaris8 on the buildfarm, but seems to be working just
fine for me),

It works if you have SOS12 installed. AFAIK the problem is that the libc
doesn't
contain specific parts which are also in the compiler-shipped version.
So without
the compiler they will fail. Additionally, SOS12 is compiled starting
from Solaris 9,
but as we don't have Solaris 8 mandatory any more just start with SOS12
on Solaris 9.

Well, I haven't tested my libffi on any other machine yet, so you might be right. However, from what I've been reading, the only problem with SOS12 on Solaris8 is that dbx isn't that stable.

The implications of using Solaris9 for libffi is larger than just imagemagick. libffi is a requirement for gobject-introspection (new package), which is a requirement for polkit (new package), which is a requirement for gconf2 (old package). This means that building 64-bit packages that depend on gconf2 will only be possible on Solaris9, and there are a ton of packages depending on gconf2...

which needs a 64-bit expect, which need 64-bit tcl/tk...

We both do work on this, so we? ;-)

Nah, I've built one version which I have installed on my buildfarm and are waiting for you to finish your work.
Unless you need some help...
