During winter camp Maciej mentioned Vanilla which seems loosely modelled
after Stackoverflow [1,2]. From looking at it briefly, it feels more
like the 21th century than traditional forums. That's only the user side
though, not the admin perspective.

Another option is Shapado [1] which is more or less a stackexchange[2]
copy. It's a bit different than traditional forums, but has a very nice
"community" thing to it.
