The Amherst College Sailing Team is happy to announce their acquisition of a fleet of 10 FJs for Lake Arcadia.

To make room for the new boats, the team is selling 8 420s. The boats are of varying vintages, but all are sailable and even and have been sailed on a small freshwater lake that required 30+ knots of breeze to even kick up 6 inch waves (so the hulls are still fairly stiff), and have been stored indoors during summers and winters.

All boats come with at least one set of sails (many sets are new within the past 2 years, most have light use), rudder, centerboard, mast, boom, and everything else you'd expect to find on a collegiate 420. Some boats have two sets of sails, spare rudders, spare centerboards, masts and many other extras (including at least 1 set of trapezes, a new spinnaker and other Club 420 equipment).

These boats are priced to move and are perfect for growing club teams, high school programs, summer programs or even FJ teams that are looking for a spare 420 for practice.

Hulls 1-4: owned (and professionally maintained) by the US Merchant Marine Academy from 1990-1999. Mild use for the past 7 years. $1300 each, $5000 for all 4.

Hull 5: new in 1999, hardly a scratch on it. Always sailed in fresh water. $3000.

Hull 6: new in 2002, includes Club 420 gear (including a brand new spinnaker). Mint condition. $3300.

Two other hulls are much older (from early 1980s). Both need cosmetic work and a block or two but otherwise float, have sails and blades, have not been used since 1999. $600 each, $1100 for both.

Pictures of all boats available on request. First people to place deposits on the boats get extra blades/sails/masts for free. Contact wpbeardsley01[at]alumni.amherst.edu for more information.
