GREATER NEW YORK AREA DINGHY REGATTA HOST: FORDHAM UNIVERSITY APRIL 21-22, 2007
Congratulations to host team, Fordham University, for winning this historical event, which was inaugurated in 1948. Fordham's name will follow that of New York Maritime College, last year's winner, on the original perpetual trophy, which is maintained at the Vincent T. Lombardi Memorial Center on Fordham's Rose Hill campus. Saturday: With winds forecast from the NNW at 5-10 mph and not a ripple on the water at 0900, racing was postponed and the fleet was towed to the north side of City Island to take advantage of the predicted breezes. At 1100, the wind filled in as forecast and 16 races were completed before it died at 1715. Special thanks go to Vice Commodore Paul Laddomada of Morris Yacht & Beach Club for providing a Race Committee boat and the use of his docks at Sailmaker Marina. Sunday: Racing returned to Long Island Sound off Morris Yacht & Beach Club and a Northeast wind filled in at 0930 and remained steady at 5-8 mph until 12 races were completed at 1300. Many thanks go to Fordham sailors Will Nazar, Colin Morse, Mary Wachowicz, Kendra White & Devin White, and Afterguarder Katie Murphy '06, who helped run a smooth regatta and see that all competitors were well fed with H&H Bagels & Cream Cheese each morning; New England Clam Chowder from the Shrimp Box on City Island on Saturday, and S&S Cheesecake following racing on Sunday.
