Teams,

I've had some questions that had been previously answered. Below is the
cover letter from the mailing of the 1st Draft. For those who didn't read it
then, here it is again.

Teams,
Attached is the 1st Draft of the 2009 MAISA Schedule.
This is the time in which new events should be created, old events should be
evaluated, and any changes in events should be made. Several teams are way
ahead on this.
Most importantly, every team that is the host for anything should carefully
review how that event is presented in the schedule. Any and all changes
should be made to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] (mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]) . Every
change should be identified by its proper MAISA event number. We want this
schedule to be as accurate and complete as possible. With few exceptions,
errors
have arisen because the host team didn’t review the information in the early
drafts or commitments were made either verbally or by a different member of
the host team.
In particular, the spring schedule has changed and will need further changes
to adjust to the new qualification procedures and the adjustments made to
deal with the national Semis.
First, with only the three restricted qualifiers in the spring, we have
dropped several fleet events. Other fleet events have suffered as more 3-on-3
and
2-on-2 events have replaced some. It would seem appropriate that we may wish
to add some new fleet events. As of now, only the ODU Spring and the
Arrigan remain as 18 boat fleet events.
The qualification procedure for 2009 really starts with the six regional
qualifiers of the fall. Every team should plan to attend their appropriate
events. From these qualifers (4 from the 1st and 2 from the 2nd in each
region)
the 18 teams in the War are selected. From the War the top nine (9) teams
qualify for the American. Then, on Week 9 in the spring, all those teams who
have
not qualified will attend events which are open ONLY to those teams in their
own region who have not qualified. The top three (3) from each of these
events, sailing only against those teams with the same motivation and goal,
will
qualify for the America.
Note also that the Club Championship requires qualification. The best four
(4) club teams from the 1st fall qualifier and the best two, not yet
qualified, from the 2nd fall qualifier will go to the Club Championship at
Ocean
County on Week 10. Thus, this event will no longer appear on the selection
sheets
as a draft pick.
The spring half of our season has become the “team race season” with more
2-on-2 events for the small teams complimenting the expanded 3-on-3 season for
the big teams. Those small teams who have not given 2-on-2 racing a try
should consider doing so. Just ask the teams who have. It isn’t so complicated
or
demanding as 3-on-3 racing and it is an exciting alternative to our usual
fleet racing.
Along with the 1st Draft, I have provided an excel program that graphically
shows the schedule which may be of help in adding or subtracting events.
Be aware that this is the 1st Draft, but let’s be as accurate as possible.
The deadline for changes before the 2nd Draft goes out is October 17th. So, don
’t delay.
Thanks for your cooperation.
