I reproduced the problem (on Windows) with sh.exe as well.

It does get stuck on Unix as well, in the same manner, at least on
this machine:

  Linux fencepost 2.6.8.1-fencepost #1 SMP Tue Oct 11 11:13:49 EDT 2005 i686 
GNU/Linux
