I use it for uninstalling. I just have to use ExtUtils::Install
rather than "make uninstall". But so what? I am unlikely to have 
the original source dir lying about when I uninstall.

I would also use it for "installshield" like app - if it existed
for a vendor install.

I also use it to find out what bundles are installed, and in particular 
to find out which CPAN module put a particular file in place.

The Makefile knows what file make up the version it is installing.
It does not know what files made up the version that is installed 
on the system.
