Now that there are... let's see... 13 people with commit access to MakeMaker
there's not a whole lot of excuses for patches to not get applied.

Use your commit bit on the main repository.  Git and Github are very forgiving
about mistakes.  The worst that happens is a commit has to be obliterated from
history, which is only slightly disruptive and very easy.  If you're not sure,
branch, but I encourage you to work in the main repository where its easier to
follow what's going on.

If you're not sure about something, discuss it here, but think it through with
code in a branch.
