  Rolex/IGFA Inshore Championship Tournament Update
Posted on: 11/03/2000

As of April, 2000, IGFA has announced the initial list of tournaments approved as qualifying events for the Rolex/IGFA Inshore Championship Tournament scheduled for Spring 2001. The tournaments accepted represent over 8000 anglers, 6 countries and 7 states.

Various locations in the Florida Keys are currently under consideration for this tournament headquarters, as well as various tournament coordinators experienced in Keys tournaments. Selections will be announced in the near future.

There have been questions from several of the qualifying tournaments that apply to everyone. The following is an update:

1. This tournament is individual competition. If the winner from a qualifying event cannot attend, the second place winner is eligible to participate.

2. The Rolex/IGFA championship will be a 3 day fishing event. Any practice days will be at the expense of the angler.

3. We will have a fleet of boats (back country types) and professional guides selected for the tournament. A drawing will be held for the boats/guide. Anglers will change boats each day.

4. The approximate cost will be between $1200 and $1500. This includes the registration fee, three days of fishing with boat and guide, angler bag, and all social events.

5. Targeted species are: Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit and possibly other species such as Redfish, Snook, etc. A point system will be used with points allocated based on the use of flys, bait, or artificial lures.

6. Good tackle will be available for the angler, or the angler may bring his/her own tackle.

7. Hotel expense and meals, other than those at the social events, are the responsibility of the angler. We will have several hotels to choose from with varying rates. Air fare is the responsibility of the angler.

8. The first and second place winners will receive an engraved ROLEX watch and trophy. There will be numerous trophies and prizes for the various categories.

9. For those of you not familiar with the Florida Keys, spring is a beautiful time with temperatures in the 70-80 range with usually light winds. In the spirit of the Keys, all events will be casual. Anglers are encouraged to wear shirts from the club or tournaments you are representing.

The IGFA staff, trustees, representatives and a host of volunteers are looking forward to hosting you at ICT 2001.

GOOD FISHING!
