I suggest you should pay attention to Karl Kereny's book Vergil und Hoelderlin, "herausgegeben zum sechzigsten Geburtstag des Altertumsforschers", Zuerich, 1957.
An interesting research direction can focus upon the close relation between literary text and artistic accomplishments: plastical and musical.
The research perspective on Vergil's reception can cover two fields: the literary (I mean theoretical one) through an intertextual study and the sociological point of view: the interaction between the cultural context of the 19th century (the rise of modernism) and the reading of ancient Latin works.
