Someone asked me off the list how to FIND these articles -- a very good
question indeed, and I suspect one to which the answer might be of general
interest, since many if not most of the subscribers on this list do not
hold advanced degrees in classical literature. So here's how it works.

_Der kleine Pauly_ is a dictionary of classical lore; "Boxen" is the
article on boxing. Even if you can't read German you could use this to get
the references for Pausanias, Theocritus, Livy, and Suetonius.

Ditto for the article on _caestus_ (boxing gloves). This article (I'm
assuming, with some confidence) can be found in the _Enciclopedia
virgiliana_ (EV). Again, even if you can't read Italian you could use this
to get the references for V. Flaccus and Statius mentioned here.
