Ah, if there's an aspect ratio, that should cut it. I had just missed it
in the examples I had seen. (I'll admit I'm no SLD person -- I just know
what people show me for the most part.) I would say that is fine for
OpenLayers use cases in general (though where to center the marker
relative to the geometry is still a problem, but I don't know if that's
solved as well).
