Good Day Everyone, I have subscribed to this listserv per the recommendation of the George Glazer Gallery. I'm researching my family ancestry and trying to find out more about a map our family is in possession of. I'd like to know the year it was engraved, &/or the year it was printed? Also if there is any way to find out prior ownership (which may aid in my discovery of our lost estate)? A high resolution jpeg can be seen here: http://ancestry.cailleach.com/images/vienna-wien.jpg Description of the Map: The map is still in a gold-leafed frame (Possibly the original). Was re-sealed by "Fine Arts Frame Co. in Chicago (date unknown). The map is of Vienna during the Hapsburg rule, approximate date unknown. In the left corner, the name on the print is "F.B. Werner delin" In the right corner, the name "Friedrich Bernhard Werner, Iohann Frederich Probst: Wolffy: excud Aug. vind" The map is written in 2 languages, on the left Latin, & on the right German. I have seen one other map at the museum of Vienna that is very similar to mine, however the title of the map different "Wienn Nin Oesterreich." http://www.kunstrestitution.at/frontend/content/get_file.php?id=3627 Brief history of How our family has obtained the map: My late grandmother Hermine Maria Olesch (nee Mendel) [descendant of Maria Amalia Theresa] had this map along with many other old famous paintings. During WW2 her estate was seized by the Russian army, and she and her husband were only allowed to flee with what ever valuables they could carry. This was the second time their estate was seized. The first time their estate was seized during WW1, but her family was allowed to re-occupy sometime after the war had ended. In addition to this map, I have three prints of wood carvings.
