All,

The next NY Map Society meeting will be at 2:30 pm on Saturday, May
8th, in the auditorium at the New York Public Library.

"Maps at the New York Public Library: New Collaborative Methods in
(re)presenting Historical Geography"

Matt Knutzen, the Library's Geospatial Librarian, will describe a
collaborative approach to digitizing, disseminating and adding value
to historical map and non-map research collections.

At the May 8th meeting members will be asked to vote on the following
Bylaw amendments:

1. Officer Elections:

In 2011 and thereafter, our annual business meeting will be held in
April instead of January. This is because only members are eligible
to vote, either for officers or on Bylaw amendments. Since many
members renew their membership during the first quarter of the year,
some would be ineligible to vote in January. But by April all
memberships should have been renewed, and therefore it's appropriate
to vote at that meeting.

To accommodate this change, the expiring term for our current
officers will be extended from January until April, 2011.

2. Board of Directors:

To encourage greater member participation in the business of the
Society, the current officers propose increasing the number of board
members from 5 to 7. The current board comprises the
president-emeritus (Sy Amkraut *), plus the four elected officers.
This board proposes that Connie Brown and Les Trager be appointed to
the Board, effective at the May 2010 meeting.

* As most members know, Sy Amkraut has served as President since the
Society resumed operation several years ago. He recently informed the
Board that he wished to step down, and according to the Bylaws the
following changes were made:

Sy Amkraut: from President to President-Emeritus
Fred Shauger: from Vice President to President
John Woram: from Web Master to Vice President and Web Master
The offices of Secretary (Heather Kinsinger) and Treasurer (Bruce
Spring) remain unchanged.
