I found the quote cited any number of places on line, but it also appears
in the Google Books offering of William Wetmore Story's work "Roba di Roma,
Vol. 1" It's toward the bottom of page 5, that page bearing the title
"Entrance to Rome."

THe quote would seem to come from:
The Atlantic Monthly, vol. 3, 1859, p. 457....
Google does seem to vary depending on what country you are operating from.
I did put the complete quote into Google but received only a handful of
hits with a maessage that other hits had been rejected as simply repeats. ALL
the quotes found were simply Wikipedia or quoting the Wikipedia source.
I have also had two occasions where my (German) Google network has found
hits for a topic (the blunders of our Foreign Minister, Guido Westerwelle)
but omitted the particular hit I was looking for. (It does look for hits in
all languages, not just German.) However, I received a pop-up message that
not all hits had been displayed and did I want to use a different system.
This had the effect of opeining up a second window displaying hits from
google.de alongside hits from google.com. And, guesss what? The hit I was
looking for was displayed.
I realise I should have ignored google.de for this hit and gone to
google.com instead.
