I have just encountered two books which might be of peripheral interest to
map folk, of a bit more interest to the SHD people. Ronald Fritze's INVENTED
KNOWLEDGE: FALSE HISTORY, FAKE SCIENCE AND PSEUDO-RELIGIONS (London: Reaktion
Books, 2009) puts Menzies with Hapgood, examines the Atlantis issue, and looks
at pre-Columbian visitors to the Americas - among many other topics. Avram
Davidson's ADVENTURES IN UNHISTORY (N.Y.: Tor, 2009) is a potpouri of essays
dealing with myths & legends among which are some essays where he speculates on
the possible real locations which were the bases of the tales of Sinbad's
travels, the Prester John story, and the location of Hyperborea.
I have to say that the Fritze book does annoy me because it follows the
practice of citing books in the bibliography with only place and date of
publication, a rather unhelpful practice. Citing publisher can tell one a lot
about a book.
