Dear MapHisters I am writing to remind you of the 3rd International Symposium of the ICA Commission on the History of Cartography which will take place at the University of Texas, Arlington, USA, from 10-13 October 2010. The Symposium will be held in conjunction with * the 7th Biennial Virginia Garrett Lectures on the History of Cartography (Friday, 8 October 2010); * the Fall Meeting of the Texas Map Society (Saturday, 9 October 2010); * a Special Map Exhibition in the gallery of Special Collections of the University of Texas at Arlington; * a meeting of the ICA Commission on Maps and Society, and * technical and social excursions. A special session of the Symposium will be taken up by * delegates from the USGS (United States Geological Survey) which celebrated its 130th anniversary in 2009. Apart from an interesting Programme featuring some 20 papers, the Symposium will also host a Workshop on the History of Cartography Project, Volume 5 (19th century) presented by Matthew Edney (Director, History of Cartography project, Madison, USA), and Roger Kain (Editor, HoC Vol 5, University of London, UK).
