Interesting thought. How so?
Numerical on one axis and alphabetical by increasing syllable count
(sort of) on the other with diagonal States.
It does have more diagonals than Chicago. But Chicago's diagonals
are by railroad not State.

Hmm....
One thing both DC natives and visitors would probably say is that
it is not a normal grid. Possibly a french-fried grid?

Given that DC is a grid, it is pretty easy to interpret given the
annotations on the map.
