The tsunami in Japan two weeks ago has now claimed another victim: Stafan Mappus, Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg in Germany. The shock waves which ensued following Fukushima etc forced Angela Merkel to do an unbelievably quick, and unbelievable U-turn in her atomic energy policy. In the aftermath her government has lost all credibility and Stefan Mappus his majority in the so-called Landtag, or government. Our own variation of an earthquake is the election of the first Green Party leader to become Minister-President of a German state ever. The question is this: Has anyone ever taken a catastrophe such as happened in Japan and then mapped not just the immediate physical effects (area of earthquakes, extent of flooding etc) but also the political fallout or other effects not exactly directly connected?
