Hello Paulo,
Thank you for suggesting these books. They look really interesting.
I have been enjoying Andre Teixeira book Fortalezas, Estado Portugues da
India, in recent days. My Portugues is coming on in leaps and bounds in
recent days, although I fear that most of the words I am learning might have
limited application in todays World.
I am finding that it is surprisingly easy to put a time line onto the
various development phases of these forts, especially as the is so much
commonality between the design of the various component types around the
World, and there seems to be an evolution of bastion (and tower design)
almost certainly driven by the development of early cannon mounts.
I am currently searching high and low for illustrations of early Portuguese
cannon. Actual examples of these earliest cannon turn up in interesting
places like Benin.
