It would also be interesting to know what modern viticulturists are doing with GIS. I suspect that some of them have created detailed maps showing such things as soil types, extent of exposure to the sun, types of grapes grown in specific areas, irrigation systems, etc. It would also be interesting to know if similar maps were produced on paper in the distant past before GIS was developed. Historically, we can go back to the depiction of vinyards on estate maps and come on up to modern wine atlases and even detour into maps on wine labels. The map at the link also falls into that category of maps derived from or inspired by transportation maps, particlarly those of the Underground and the Metro.
