Hi Jacques,
Well, I haven't bumped into any way to determine what language MapInfo
is using.
You say that this is important for the portability of tools ! Why is that,
is it because
you want to place you tools in a special menu. If that is so then I would
strongly
recommend you and all others to use the Menu ID insted of the name og the
menu.
But I still agree with you it should be possible in some way to determine
the language
of the Mapinfo running, just as it is possible to determine the version.
If it is you install program that needs to know this why don't you let the
user deside
what language he wants to use ? If you want to make the decision for him,
then people
who have installed more the one version of MapInfo in maybe two different
languages
have a problem !

I am looking for a way for a MapBasic application to recognize the language
used by MI (How many are they incidentally?). This is most important for
the
portability of tools on the various MI language versions.
It could be a command, such as systeminfo(), or some key wording of any
command that would reveal unmistakably the language, on the condition that
it could be run before installing the application.
I am sure that many would appreciate increased access to "multi-lingual"
applications, but some prior knowledge is required.
Thanks in advance to you all.
Jacques Paris
Best regards,
Peter
