Hi Peter,

Try this:

1. Go into the Access dbase and delete any records in the Mapinfo Map
Catalogue table. Make sure that the Access table to be made mappable has a
Primary Key - this is important!

2. Create an alias (DSN) for the dbase using the ODBC administrator.

3. Make sure you have full administrative rights on the database. If there
is any security (system .mda or system.mdw) make sure you have used the
Workgroup Administrator to join the appropriate workgroup.

4. Then open Mapinfo and FIRST make the table mappable using "make ODBC
table mappable".

5. Finally in Mapinfo use the File>Open ODBC table to open the Access table.

If it is still read only make sure you didn't check the read only option,
that you can edit the table in Access, and that there are no network admin
restrictions in place on you as a user (eg. read only for the Access server
directory).

Remember - you are limited to mapping points only with this method.
Hope this helps!

Subject: MI ODBC Links

    Greetings,

I have been experimenting with creating ODBC linkages with an Access
data file. The procedure is straightforward. I run into difficulties
within MI. My situation is after the initial ODBC connection is made,
a browser window of the data file opens. You receive a little
information box indicating that your table can be edited. At this
point if you try an make the ODBC table mappable, you receive a
message indicating that a MapInfo catalogue has not been created. So
far I am with the program. I create the catalogue and proceed to make
the table mappable, only to receive a message now saying my table
cannot be edited. I thought this was the entire objective of ODBC
links, having two way connection. That is if I update the Access table
then MI reflects those changes and the reverse.

    Could someone enlighten me?

    TIA

    Peter
