There are number of frustrating aspects to "Workspaces" that need to be fixed. I
had a week right out of the pages of the Twighlight Zone a month back. Working
in the Win95 environment I have a number of very complex workspaces that take 10
or more minutes to load (I'm on a Pentium 166 machine), normally the most
frustrating aspect is that I've moved, modified or deleted a file it needs -
simple to fix, but time consuming. However, my TZ episode had MapInfo loading
the workspace minus all the queries I had done! I spent a fair amount of time
trying to fix it, but to no avail. I recreated the workspace from scratch, not
once but three times - each creation successful until I closed everything down
and started up again - everything was there - except anything built upon
queries!!! After a bit of experimentation I determined that if I saved one query
instead of relying on numerous "temporary columns" (as one tends to do!), it
worked just fine. I have since created completely unrelated workspaces and saved
multi-query "temp columns" without a problem, so obviously I never got to the
bottom of the problem!

Workspaces or at least the concept of a "workspace or project or meta file" is
essential for any type of productivity at all - hence they need to be absolutely
robust. MI has a way to go yet in this regard. However, the same is true of
ArcView's "Project" file.

Cheers,
Chris

Please, please, please let there be an end to workspaces in version 6. Just
spent all day putting together a complicated map of a Marina (with all the
bells and whistles) on my NT workstation and because it takes forever to
print out of NT, if at all, I had to use a Win95 workstation - which gives
output in no time flat (what gives with these printers drivers?)

While I was at the Win95 pc I decided to add a Legend and re-save my
workspace (silly boy).

It was when I went back to my NT workstation and tried to load the workspace
to do some more editing - guess what happened - the workspace won't load
because it can't find the printer (NT gives printers a different name to
win95).

So now I have got to edit the workspace to get my map back.

I find this sooooo frustrating - does anyone else? - what is the answer? -
am I expecting too much?
