Hello Guy,
yes, we just bought 8 new DELL Celeron (not certain of the specs right now)
PCs.
A couple of weeks ago I needed to run a small MapBasic app. (SQLs
incl.graphic selections to find a nearest point) in MI55.
For the first few hundred records this was running pretty much the same
speed as on my NT4 PC but after checking after a few hours the process had
ground to almost a halt (processing about one search every 10sec) on the
Celeron.
Other problems on those machines (they are running on Win98) have to do with
the display in MapInfo (both MI501 and MI55).

We have had also reports of possible memory leaks in MI55 from our other
offices (so maybe that's the problem ??)

Someone else may also be able to tell you something about Floating Point
Ops. in MI and the relation to Celerons in that area.
Summary: Celerons are fine for Training (ie: Occasional Use) but wouldn't
use them in day-to-day ops.
Cheers,
Andreas Hartmann

Hello Mappers,

Has anyone had any experience running MapInfo Pro with a Celeron processor.
If so, have you noticed any performance degradation in general. We're
looking at upgrading our notebook hardware company-wide and don't want to
make a technological mistake.

I'd appreciate the feed back.
