Fran the problem you face is with a feature in every MapInfo Layer.
It's called Zoom Layering. It gives you the ability to select layer by
layer at what map scales or zoom levels a particular layer is visible.
Your problem with the raster file is that it is currently set with zoom
layering on and at an inconvenient zoom range. Go to layer control,
select the raster layer and then click on Display. There will be an
option for Zoom Layering. You can turn this off, which will enable you
to see the map at any scale, or set it to a more appropriate zoom
range. The need for zoom layering is for screen redraw times. The more
imagery you have in a map window the longer the screen redraw. So you
can see a lot of raster images displayed at any zoom range and it would
take forever to redraw the map window.

Hope this helps,
