Hi, Mappers.
I need to connect MapInfo Pro 5.0 to SQLserver V7.0, but haven't been able
to. Below you'll find a description of my current situation.
SITUATION:
I'm trying to access the SQLserver 7.0 with the Mapinfo's Intersolv ODBC
driver that ships with MInfoPro 5.0, which is version 3.10; and fails with
an error in spanish which translates as "[MapInfo Win32 SQL Server 6
Driver]This driver is version 6 and client software is from a previous
version. You need to install a client software version 6". In this
machine, the "client software" for SLQserver client is version 7.00.032.
(Both NTWDBLIB.DLL and DBMSSOCN.DLL, and both are in \WinNT\System32 dir).
I have Windows NT at the client workstation, and also winNT at the server.
I've found out that I can't use Intersolv (now Merant) standard drivers,
since they are different from the MapInfo-ready ones. The have released 3
versions since the 3.10 that comes with MapInfo 5.0. 1) Version 3.11, 2)
Version 3.50 and 3) Version 3.51. In the Version 3.50 documentation you
can read "this driver can now connect to SQLserver 6.5 and 7.0". We can
deduct from this that Version 3.10 can't be connected to SQLserver 7.0.
According to Merand's tech support, it "may work", but not as a "supported
configuration".
3) I can't use the microsoft or standard Intersolv/Merant drivers. I've
downloaded all ver 3.11, ver 3.50 and ver3.51 drivers from Merant, but
their drivers are different from the MapInfo ones. (even their names.
Ivss614.dll vs Miss614.dll). When I try to connect the ver3.50 drivers
(which are plain Merant, not MapInfo-ready-and-renamed) I get the exact
same error as when I try to use the standard Microsoft driver (message from
MapInfo Pro, reading "error converting data types", where you have already
defined which columns, which rows from which table and into which mapinfo
table you want it, right in step 4 of 4, when Mapinfo is about to download
the data.
4) MapInfo Corp has not included the Merand "modified" odbc drivers version
3.50 in MapInfo pro 5.5, but they tell me that the SQLserver ODBC driver
will work ok.
QUESTION:
Have anybody connected MapInfo Pro 5.0 to SQLserver 7.0? Have you found
this same error? With MapInfo Pro 5.5? With SQLserver 6 or 6.5?
