You can wait for new CPU - GIS supported INTEL P VI
because if they dont have any code making it faster, we need more special 
and powerfull cpu

So this means intergraph solution; special hardware for GIS.

This is desktop GIS so it is cheap and slow.
If u wanna more speed u need more special and prof.and expensive software 
and hardware.

and main subject why older version is faster than new version ?
may be this means your new software was written for higher CPU
I wonder what is ur PC configuration ?
Because some programs faster in win98 but slower in win95 ??
altough ur old version faster in win95 than your new version in win95.
because new versions are written for new platforms and new hardware.

i think what i m talking is only dummy :)
