Tim,
Yes I too only heard of Manifold recently and after checking out their web
site www.manifold.com I was very impressed. One thing that seemed to be
missing was the ability to handle georeferenced raster data (such as aerial
photo backgrounds). A quick response from Manifold assured me that this
facility was planned for their next version to be released in a couple of
months.
As one of my clients is intending to purchase several more copies of Mapinfo
at Aus$2500 each, the prospect of purchasing a similar product to MI (even
better if you beleive the Manifold speil) for around US$170 each it is
something well worth looking into. Additional modules can be purchased to
extend the functionality such as a topology building module, a transport
network module, a 3D visualisation module. If you were to purchase all
available modules, total comes to US$560 which is very cheap. Makes me
wonder if there is a catch.
Anyone else have any hands on experience with Manifold?
