Afternoon all
i would suggest that Geoff Robinson's resignation come
a bout as a result of the frustrations of working with
a notoriously slow moving and conservative Government
Agency.
As someone who works with the OS and their datasets on
a regular basis i can entirely understand this. The
whole mindset is still way behind the rest of the
industry on things such as data formats (to non Uk
MapInfo ers pray you never have to come into contact
with NTF), data supply and data pricing. One gets the
feeling that the whole thing is still geared towards
the 1:50,000 paper maps.
In the recent Article in Mapping Awareness Geoff
Robinson said that he had found 'a huge well of
goodwill towards the OS...' - from whom ????
I feel sorry foir Geoff Robinson because i feel he was
trying to change things and possibly for the better. I
only hope his sucessor has a similar attitude or a
major opportunity will have been lost.
sorry if that was a bit of a rant but i feel it had to
be said. this whole situation whilst mainly affecting
the UK is symptomatic of the way data supply and data
providers can affect the whole of the industry
(witness the drop in proces mnetionned by bill in NZ
and Autralia)
cheers & have a good weekend all
Jon.
