A long time ago, when MapInfo 3.0 was new, we began our GIS. We all knew
each other, and what we were doing. Well, we didn't really know what we
were doing, but we did learn together. Now, GIS has expanded from three
users Citywide to 20 in our Department, plus 5 other Departments and many
viewers. People create new layers all the time, and since MI makes
projections relatively invisible, layers are getting created in the default
Lat-Lon. That creates problems for certain types of SQL inquiries, which we
do all the time. It also makes matching layers (snapping to points)
impossible in some cases.

I want the default to be in our State Plane NAD83 (not to mention feet and
acres for distance and area defaults). It sounds like I should add Set
CoordSys, Set Area Units, Set Distance Units statements to the Startup
workspace, but that doesn't seem to do it. Unfortunately, I'm told by Tech
Support, there isn't any way to change this default in MapInfo without
writing a MapBasic program. I do a bit of MapBasic, but that doesn't seem
to affect program defaults.

It seems that there must be some way to alter the program's default. Ive
checked the archives, with no luck. Any experience or ideas out there?
Sample code?

Thanks for listening!
