Hi All!
Since my last post I have learned the price for GM is 595/$995.
In my opinion, this is far too costly for an essential function in any
GIS, and I would seriously ask MapInfo Corp to reconsider.
I believe that MapInfo should be a qualified tool for map and data
creation, and not only analysis and visualisation.
Such a tool should naturally include a topology engine, as well as a
basic developer tool.
I am thinking of MapBasic.
Consider this:
Neither MapBasic nor GM (aka Topology Manager) are new products, meaning
that the development cost should be more or less covered by now.
So squeeezing out a $1000 dollars each appears a bit greedy to me.
Consider instead the tremendous competitive edge MapInfo would get if GM
and MapBasic were included in MI Professional, at no extra cost. This
would give a meaning to the 'Professional' suffix, and beat ArcView that
still has to rely on ARC/INFO for serious topology creation.
Regards, Mats.E
