Personally, selling something versus giving it away for FREE, makes some cents
to me....

As I read the knee-jerk reactions to MapInfo's Geometry Manager, is it the
"rumored" $900 US price or really any price? I can not find any price reference
- the real question is what is its value?? Would $195 still be too much? As a
stockholder, the presumed relationship that you imply, that many more copies of
MapInfo Professional will sold if just this one capability was provided seems a
very, very shaky economic assumption.

If I were in ESRI's camp having faced many years of effort to create AML and
Avenue value on SUN equipment, I would be very upset this morning knowing that
my future was to be driven by WIN2000; ESRI's SDE-Lite, a proprietarized but
"free" Microsoft Jet 4.0 database or their "must have" issue of an $8000 SDE
that can not access Oracle 8i's spatial indices; and yikes, worse yet, ArcInfo
8.0's AVB (Arc-Visual Basic) programming environment. Now that future
uncertainly really has make a person scratch their head. (All I can figure is
after Microsoft is broken up Jack will sell ESRI to the surviving SQL Server
Group?)

At the bottom line, this data cleaning tool which I understand contains
technology from Spatialware, will hopefully chop off the endless harangue from
the frustrated MapInfo "topologist". Yes, we have needed this tool for far to
long. If your business is making spatial data, not just use of others, this is
likely a good value. I too would like to see the entry cost more like $195. At
that price many who don't need the data cleaning features would still buy it.

Florida I am certain will be full of other surprises.....

PS - MapInfo's stock is up 8.6 percent since Nove 3rd...... quick, time to
sell....
