SPIRT APAI Scholarship (IT): Database architecture and visualisation methods for spatio-temporal data ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The TimeMap Project (http://www.timemap.net - a joint project of the School of Archaeology, Basser Department of Computer Science and Sydney VISLAB at the University of Sydney and the Museum of Sydney) is able to offer a PhD APAI (IT) scholarship starting within the first six months of 2000. The scholarship is valued at $21,080 per year for three years (tax exempt), plus the opportunity to perform a limited amount of part-time work within the framework of the project. The student will work within a multi-disciplinary team developing spatio-temporal GIS, distributed database access and map animation for historical and archaeological data. The APAI will be expected to research issues relevant to the TimeMap project as a whole. Our preference would be for the APAI to research methods of recording and modelling spatio-temporal data within a relational database structure, and to develop a revised architecture for data storage and management. However, other topics within object-oriented and distributed database management, metadata management, spatial animation techniques and visualisation would also be acceptable. Strong database skills and an interest in data structures and/or animation techniques and/or visualisation would be an advantage. Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents. They must have the equivalent of an honours degree in Computer Science or related field, or an undergraduate degree and a demonstrated ability to perform research. ======================================================================== Ian Johnson [[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Director, Archaeological Computing Laboratory Senior Research Fellow, School of Archaeology, A14 University of Sydney NSW 2006, Australia http://www.archaeology.usyd.edu.au/ +61 2 9351 3142 tel +61 2 9351 6392 fax ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this list, send e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put "unsubscribe MAPINFO-L" in the message body, or contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
