You can get the worldreg program. it will register the mrsid file and
generate the tab file for it automatically. piece of cake.

Subject: Registering MrSid file in MI
Hi:
I have a MrSid file created from a Erdas Imagine file. The coordinates are
already imbedded in the file; however if I understand some of the comments
in the list archives, MapInfo does not recognize this information even with
the MrSid plugin. I am using MI 5.0.
One comment made was to use the MrSid viewer to export the file to a .tif
and then edit the associated .tab file to include the correct projection
parameters. I tried this but got only errors (it didn't seem to like the way
I included the projection info instead looking for a [table] - I don't know
how I would properly right the projection parameters in the .tab file).
Does anyone have suggestions on how I can properly register the MrSid file
to view it along with my vector maps (when I put them together, apart from
not being even close to lining up, my regular tables were all rotated in
funny directions)? Am I correct in my understanding of the problems with
registering MrSid files.
Thanks for the assistance.
