I had a similar problem the other day. First I opened the .dbf with Excel then > save file as> *.xls. I was then able to import the *.xls file into Access. Note: The *.dbf had to opened from inside Excel, in other words, I started Excel then file> open> *.dbf. When I tried to open the file from within windows explorer, it would start Excel but then give a similiar error as Access (ie. unable to read file) hope this helps, EMD
