Definately not the same.
Two major differences which spring to my mind are:
1. MapBasic has very limited tools for building GUIs compared to VB.
2. MapBasic does not fully support Microsofts Component Object Model (COM)
so, for example you cannot build a COM DLL in VB which can be used from
MapBasic because the latter simply cannot instantiate COM classes.
On the plus side, the basic statements/syntax and control flow are
comparible - it is often possible to cut MapBasic code and paste into a VB
module and find that it is syntactically correct.

Subject: MI Is MapBasic essentially Visual Basic?
I have intermediate skills in both MapInfo and Visual Basic. I was
wondering
if MapBasic is similar to Visual Basic? I am guessing it is, but maybe not.
Does anyone know both MB and VB that can give me a comparison?
Thanks,
James
