Welcome to the Wonderful World of MapInfo!

A few suggestions:

Are you printing from a layout window? That can give you more
control....but not much more.

Another thing I do is, when labeling, don't use the label feature in the
layer control. As you may have noticed, that keeps the font size the same
no matter what zoom you are at. Instead, run the autolbl.mbx (should be in
MapInfo>Professional>tools). What this does is draws labels in the cosmetic
layer which can then be saved to their very own table. The labels are thus
like any other map object -- i.e., if the label is 10 miles wide, it will
always be 10 miles wide, regardless of zoom, position, etc. That helps
enormously.

Hope that helps -- good luck.

Subject: MI Text Positions on Screen v on Paper

I'm a reasonably sophisticated computer user, but a newcomer to MapInfo. My
requirements at the moment are pretty simple: I am overlaying small amounts
of data onto a map, and doing some annotating of the map. The final medium
for these maps is paper - my problem is I'm unable to count on text or
labels appearing on a printed map in the same place as on the screen
display. I've tried using different printers, printing from both Map and
Layout windows etc. I can manually move the text, but there's no
consistency between the offsets from label to label. The offsets are small,
but significant, especially for doing things like labeling lat/long axes
(which I am adding manually - I haven't yet found a way to do this
automatically. A grid is not a suitable option either) Surely I must be
missing something important ?

Sorry for the basic question. Thanks for your help
