What projection are you using for the table you are placing the labels on
and what projection is you map window in. I would suggest they be the same.
To change projection of the table you must use Save Copy As and change the
projection in the dialoug box. The map projection may be changed at Map>
Options. I belive that the map projection is taken from the first layer so
you should place the table you are placing points in as layer one. There is
an invisible grid that all objects must fall upon, there is no in between
placement. The grid is determined by the area the projection covers divided
by a constant number ive forgotten ( in the billions), this determines the
density of the grid. There fore I suspect that if the projections of the
table and Map window match, that the native (table) projection should be
"bounded". See page 478 in the 5.5 user manual. Below is an example of a
bounded system I created to get township section corners to fall on their
exact location. You must open Mapinow.prj to do this

THIS IS THE PROVIDED PROJECTION FOR MOST OF MY TABLES
"Michigan 2113, Southern Zone (1927)\p26790", 3, 73, 8, -84.3333333333,
41.5, 42.1, 43.6666666667, 2000000, 0

I ADDED THESE LINES TO THE FILE (THE UNDERLINED PORTION IS CHANGED/ADDED)
"Michigan 2113, Union Twp in the Southern Zone (1927)\p26790", 2003, 73,
8, -84.3333333333, 41.5, 42.1, 43.6666666667, 2000000, 0,1863428.5,
748418.3, 1895821.6, 780557.2
"Michigan 2113, Isabella Co in the Southern Zone (1927)\p26790", 2003, 73,
8, -84.3333333333, 41.5, 42.1, 43.6666666667, 2000000, 0, 1800070, 715923,
1928000, 844552

The last underlined part is the Bounds of the projection. You get these
numbers from mapinfo. Zoom out to an area that covers more than the area of
your new projection. Set the map projection to the coordinate sys you want
to base the new one on, in my case its State Plane (NAD27) Michigan Southern
Zone. Use the Square Region tool and draw a rectangle around the area of
the new projection. Double click the rectangle to get the X1 Y1 and X2 Y2
bounds, write them down. Open the Mapinfow.prj file and find the section
that pertains to the projection you are starting from. Copy that projection
and paste it back in the following line. Now modify the projection by
adding 2000 to the first number after the part set in quotation marks. Then
add the bounds of the projection area you got off the info box for the
rectangle you drew and add these to the end of the projection. Now save a
copy of your table in this projection. Set that table as layer one, and set
the map window projection to the new one and you will be able to pin the
tail on the nat.

Subject: MI Text Positions on Screen v on Paper

I'm a reasonably sophisticated computer user, but a newcomer to MapInfo. My
requirements at the moment are pretty simple: I am overlaying small amounts
of data onto a map, and doing some annotating of the map. The final medium
for these maps is paper - my problem is I'm unable to count on text or
labels appearing on a printed map in the same place as on the screen
display. I've tried using different printers, printing from both Map and
Layout windows etc. I can manually move the text, but there's no
consistency between the offsets from label to label. The offsets are small,
but significant, especially for doing things like labeling lat/long axes
(which I am adding manually - I haven't yet found a way to do this
automatically. A grid is not a suitable option either) Surely I must be
missing something important ?

Sorry for the basic question. Thanks for your help
