To place native TAB files you must dig out the map manager program - found
normally here: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\Datamap\Datainst.exe. That contains the tables and layer control
properties - all wrapped up in geoset saves which are rather like workspaces
to thouse who have never met them. If anyone wants a more detailed
description on how to get TAB files into Excel send me an email and i'll
send you a copy of our internal tutorial.
