Listers, I've written a MapBasic routine that creates buffers around points (municipal supply water wells) where the size of the buffer represents the amount of water produced by that well in a given year. This works a lot better than thematic mapping by symbol point size because you have much greater control over the size of buffers than of symbols, and you can still see smaller buffers even when they are completely overlapped by adjacent larger buffers. The problem comes when trying to add these buffers to the legend - MI recognizes them as regions of a single type and draws a single rectangle in the legend. Does anyone have an idea on how to display these buffers in the legend in the "customary" way. Scaled circle maps like these typically have a legend showing either a series of labelled, nested circles, or a single circle with a scale relating the radius or diameter to the actual value being mapped. I'm thinking about giving up on MI's automatic legend creation and just drawing my own legends in another Map Window, but I'll eagerly await any suggestions. TIA, and will sum. _____________________________ Tim Warman Geologist & GIS Specialist Richard C.
